Show Up, Stand Out: A Conversation with Josh “Smilez” Wilborn

Show Up, Stand Out: A Conversation with Josh “Smilez” Wilborn

On a personal growth journey, it’s easy to become engrossed in navigating through our emotions, dreams, and fears. But something magical happens when we take the time to step out of our bubble and into someone else’s world.

When we show up for others, be it attending their events, supporting their projects, purchasing their products, or even just lending your ear in their struggles, we’re doing more than just being a good friend. We’re fostering a sense of community and strengthening our connections with those around us. It is well-known that community is a huge component to our mental health, and having a strong sense of community can uplift us in difficult times.

But here’s the real kicker – showing up for others doesn’t just benefit those we are supporting. You will reap the benefits as well! By showing up for others, we expose ourselves to different perspectives, ideas, and experiences. We learn, grow, and evolve in ways we couldn’t have if we stayed in our own little world. We become more empathetic, understanding, and aware, which are all traits that contribute to our personal growth.

Who knows, you might even inspire someone to spread the love! The act of showing up is a gift that keeps on giving. When we show up for someone, they’re likely to do the same for someone else, and that someone else might do the same, and so on.

The reality is, we’re all in this together. As our Growth Journal Podcast guest Josh “Smilez” Wilborn so wonderfully put it:

“At the end of the day, we are all creatives trying to grind. We can all get a cheque together, and there is enough for all of us to eat.”

So don’t be afraid to show up for others. You never know how much it could contribute to your own journey of personal growth.
